Casa de Campo is a single, gated, master-planned resort that opened in 1974 and has had half a century to mature into one of the Caribbean’s most established addresses. It is private, low-density, and self-contained. Punta Cana is a region rather than a resort — a large, fast-growing stretch of the east coast built around tourism, running from the busy hotel zones of Bavaro to the exclusive gated enclave of Cap Cana. One is a defined community; the other is a coastline of many communities.

Location and access

Access shapes the experience of owning in each. Casa de Campo sits beside La Romana and has its own airport (LRM) roughly 10 minutes from the gate, with Punta Cana International (PUJ) about 50 minutes away and Santo Domingo’s airport (SDQ) about 75 minutes. Punta Cana is built right around PUJ, the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic, which gives it an unmatched volume of direct international flights. If sheer ease of getting guests in and out on many airlines is the priority, Punta Cana has the edge; if a calm, private arrival minutes from your door appeals more, Casa de Campo does.

Golf

Both are serious golf destinations, which is rare. Beaches

This is where Punta Cana has the structurally stronger hand. The east coast offers long, wide, white-sand beaches running for miles — the classic Caribbean postcard — in far greater quantity than the south coast. Casa de Campo’s headline beach, Minitas, is lovely and, crucially, private and calm, but it is modest in scale by comparison. If endless beach is the single most important thing, Punta Cana delivers more of it; if a private, quiet beach within a gated community matters more than sheer length, Casa de Campo’s appeals.

Exclusivity and feel

Casa de Campo trades on establishment and privacy: low density, mature landscaping, longtime owners, and the feel of a settled community rather than a tourist zone. Punta Cana spans a much wider range, from high-volume resort areas to the genuinely exclusive Cap Cana. If you want a uniformly private, established feel across the whole community, Casa de Campo delivers it consistently; in Punta Cana, that experience exists but is concentrated in specific enclaves rather than the region as a whole.

Real estate: price and product

Punta Cana’s scale gives it a broader range of product, including more entry-level apartments and new developments, which means a lower price of entry overall.
